Azmina and a fish called Seahorse

AzminaBlueShirt1.jpg

AzminaBlueShirt2.jpg

During the last year or so, Azmina named her first Barbie "Dos", our Parakeet "Tweet", the pet fighting fish "Seahorse", and her other doll "Lily".

And we have no idea how she names them. I can understand "Tweet", but "Seahorse"?? She knows what a seahorse is and for the life of me, I don't remember showing her any blue seahorses. "Seahorse" by the way, the fighting fish, is blue.

We tried convincing her that Seahorse might not be an appropriate name, because, well... it's a regular fish. We suggested "Blue" or the very appropriate and extremely clever "Fisch", because, and we're trying to teach her logic here, the fish is blue, and it's a fish.

I know she understands all the words that we used to explain this to her, but somehow all seemed illogical to her, except that the fish should be called "Seahorse".

So Seahorse it was, and we told her what a fine name it was for a fish.

Beamed from the past

NYCcop.jpg

I am not much of a TV person for a couple of years now, but I felt strangely at home watching the season's premier of Boston Legal. Watching William Shatner and Heather Locklear in the same show, I was hypnotized in front of the tube as I was some 20 years ago watching T.J. Hooker.

Every time I see Shatner and Locklear in the same scene, I get flashbacks of the opening credits of the 80's cop show, where Shatner effortlessly nailed a bad guy by throwing his baton to the back of the clumsy person's knees. I know I said hypnotized, but I don't remember the actual show being that good - well, atleast not as good as that show with a talking car named KITT and an evil twin named KARR. Or even the one in which the main character could transform himself into any kind of animal that he wished.

At least Shatner's character is more appropriate for him in Boston Legal. I am just waiting to see how the producers would bring in Leanord Nimoy into the show.

Have hat and guitar; will perform...

Everytime someone mentions something about wearing a hat and turning to the other direction, which happens more than you think, I think about this guy.

Green Blanket

More or less the summer version of the shot I took last winter. Duckweed covers the lake this time.

O' where, o' where, did my August go? O' where, o' where did August go?

ArchHand.jpg

ArchHand2.jpg

Looked at my watch this morning, and realised it was already the first day of September.

Not that I have taken August for granted, but it has been quite busy for a traditionally (for most other people) lazy month. We now have less daylight than we had a month before - more than 80 minutes less than what we had on August 1. Right now it feels like university finals all over again. It's perfect out, but you're stuck inside.

Atleast there is the long weekend to look forward to, and the weather outlook seems to be perfect. Seems to be the only real rest many of us will get for a very long time. I have thought of walking the length of Manhattan on Saturday, but there is that slight possibility that I might not be able to walk normally for a few days after. We'll see how it goes.

Now, something related to the photo:
The hand belongs to one of my best friends, Archie. In June, when this was taken, he said he was gonna quit in August. I haven't talked to him since July, but I hope he smoked his last cigarette yesterday.

Everyone knows quitting is hard, and many of us had been quitting for many, many years. Well now that the Internet knows of your own promise, hopefully you will get more support from friends. Do it for the two girls, if not for you.
