I didn't talk to these men, but if I did, I would've asked them what actually mattered to them in the end.

Mystic Manager

MysticManager.jpg

It was half past one and the only Japanese restaurant in Mystic, Connecticut, was empty. We had walked into a mistake, we thought.

The manager happily welcomed us and we hoped for the best. The manager had his back towards us when we sat down, just as he did when we first walked in. That had to be bad Feng Shui.

The food turned out great however; and since we walked in, two other tables filled. N had the salmon fried rice, which she shared with me. If it's cooked fish, and I could eat it, then it has to be good.

We didn't get to see Mystic that much during that day trip. Our lives was always much happier if the kids were happy. And if it means just quiet walks around town and spending around half of the time in restaurants and ice cream parlours, so be it.

Hi, my name is Dos!

Hi-i-am-Dos.jpg

Introducing Dos!

A Barbie doll inexplicably named so, by Azmina.

"Doll?", we asked her, trying to solicit a logical explanation. "No", she said quietly; "Dos!", she continued.

So, Dos! it was, as distinct from Doll.

Better than astroprojection

sharanskysteps.jpg

No matter how hard it has been for anyone, or how hard someone has been trying, chances are, someone else has had it worse, or someone else has been trying that extra bit harder.

I know of people who has been office bound for months at a time, enjoying few quiet sporadic weekends here and there, just enough to keep their sanity.

Here's to those, whose hard work makes everything a lot better for all of us.

Frown

Farizah0705.jpg

N told me that Farizah has inherited my frown.

I do not have a frown on my face by default. I have expressive brows, and wrinkles from old age.

Sailor

ParkSailor.jpg

What does one do after being told "You are wrong!" after trying to explain that marinara does not necessarily mean seafood?

Post it here of course!!! I had already wasted my breath explaining that in many Romanic languages, using the root word mer, mar or mare for "sea" would usually mean that you'd have to use "fruits of" before the word for "sea" to mean seafood. Except, of course in Spanish, where seafood is mariscos.

Arguing that with someone who has atleast three pasta marinaras a week, on average, is like picking a fight with members of Skid Row 15 years ago.

20 Someones in 20 Somewheres

RandomMan105thPark.jpg

Someone, somewhere, is:
- living the awkward moments of Mr. Brightside;
- forwarding an e-mail he/she thinks is funny;
- laughing at an e-mail that he/she just received, agreeing it was funny;
- passionately pursuing an elusive passion;
- running empty on gas, on creative juices;
- processing a photo on photoshop of someone taking a photo of someone else;
- intoxicated by the perfume of a stranger;
- experiencing something for the first time;
- thinking it's too late to turn back and start again;
- thinking of something to say, something comforting, something sympathetic;
- listening to her iPod not noticing 8 others in the same bus;
- selling his belongings to help pay his mounting debt;
- is expecting to have lunch, dinner and boundless pleasures, before retiring at 6 a.m. the following day;
- thinking of removing the tattoo on her lower back she had done in 2002;
- leaving someone;
- taking advantage of a vulnerability;
- is tired after carrying her child to daycare, the stroller broken at home, and despite having 2 jobs, cannot afford a new one;
- thinks he could sing;
- is having his sincerity tested, and eventually doubted;
- spent.

Happiness is...

FarizahCentralPark.jpg

Farizah seems more at home to the park than Azmina was at her age. Azmina refused to walk on grass when she started walking. We like Central Park. Although the apartment is small, we have this vast backyard that stretches for acres and acres. This is taken at 105th street, miles and miles from our usual spot.

Of stars, the seas, and love.

TinyBlueFlowers1.jpg

Azmina's current current favourite song is "La Mer" by Charles Trenet. When she first heard it a few weeks ago, she asked for it to be played on repeat. With the uncoordinated movements that included jumping and moving from side to side, she danced with an excitement that could only be truly explained from the perspective of another 2 year old.

Farizah's favourite song, in addition to the essential twinkle,twinkle, little star, is "Somebody to love" by Queen. Only the nursery rhyme and the Freddie Mercury song could provide temporary calm when she finds that her mother had left her with her dad for a few minutes.

I have tried introducing them to current music but even chart-toppers don't have the same impact. That's actually quite OK by me; I'm not raising the next Britney or Christina anyway.
